Onóra Finn

Irish Language Teacher

Onóra is thrilled to be joining Dublin Waldorf School as the Irish language teacher. Onóra gets her love of Gaeilge through both formal and cultural education. Her approach is to foster a love of the artistry of the language, which she herself received from enthusiastic teachers, Irish dancing and playing traditional music from the earliest days of her childhood.

She teaches immersively and, using her background in the arts, she is looking forward to including the wonderful world of Irish music, dance and the natural poetry of the language to her students. Onóra will split her time teaching Irish language between Dublin Waldorf School and Children’s House Primary Montessori School.

Onóra believes that the ethos of Waldorf education is perfectly suited to the language through its Pagan roots. Gaeilge is deeply connected to the earth and the environment around it, from the tiniest creature to our understanding of the land formations around us, and she believes that an understanding of this harnesses a fuller knowledge of the language. (Fun fact, and one of Onóra’s favourite words from Gaeilge, Ladybird in Irish is Bóín Dé, which literally means God’s little cow!)

Onóra has completed a Bachelor’s Degree with Honours in NCAD in Fine Art and Visual Culture and has taught in various roles within the Irish language for the past number of years, from private tutoring and afterschool clubs to primary school classrooms.

In her free time, Onóra loves to make art and write. She enjoys reading everything from fantasy to art theory. When she gets a free weekend (and the Irish climate allows!) she loves to camp in the mountains around the country and go on long hikes.
